This week’s episode brings us a new murder, but there are some lingering consequences from last week’s case. We start this week with Dash playing chess in the park against four different opponents, and beating them all. Suddenly, he gets a vision of a murder and runs off (presumably to Vega, but we see that he runs to Wally’s place).
The scene shifts to an urban shootout. Detective Vega and Lieutenant Blake are coming under fire. Vega uses her advanced “lenses” to help her see infrared inside a building. She identifies the criminals and runs after them herself, running ahead of Blake. Vega isn’t too good with teamwork. She seemingly neutralizes all the criminals, but she has missed one, who shoots her. The holograms then disappear and we see that it was just a training exercise. There was a little bit of a “training exercise” feel to the scene even from the first second, but I thought it was training a mock obstacle course instead of virtual reality.
Blake tells Vega that the feds are investigating the Rutledge case from last week’s episode since the two suspects were killed. Vega’s CSI tech also says that forensics indicates Mr. Rutledge was pushed off the balcony, as opposed to Vega’s report of him running and tripping accidentally.
Dash gets his vision recorded by Wally. Vega also reviews the video. There are no faces this time, but her wrist has a wristband from Club Alpha in DuPont Circle. Vega suggests they go to Arthur for help with a name. When Dash goes to Arthur for help, Arthur says he will only help if Dash convinces Vega to get a classified police file for him. Dash is annoyed that Arthur cares so little that a person is about to die. Arthur smiles and tells Dash that some people deserve to die. (referring to when Dash killed Rutledge). Dash storms off.
Vega and Dash go to Club Alpha to investigate. Although Vega initially doesn’t want Dash to tag along, she relents. Vega gives Dash a police-issue sick stick in case of emergency. (future-ish tech sidenote: the club wristbands have tech acts as a matchmaker. Two clubgoers touch their wrists together and the bands evaluate their compatibility on a percentage scale).
While Vega goes to the ladies room, Dash sees a girl with the unique shoes from his vision. Dash uses his sick-stick, but the man he disables turns out to be the girl’s brother. Vega spots a guy with the tattoo from Dash’s vision.
I’m guessing Vega took a picture or something, because Wally is able to identify the suspect as Tyler Cole, who is a famous author.
Dash seems a little shocked when Vega says they’ll hang back and just follow Cole until he makes a move. They can’t just arrest him before he commits a crime. Dash doesn’t like how this keeps the potential victim in danger, though Vega is confident they can stop the murder. Cole goes home alone while Vega and Dash follow and stakeout.
After “wasting” a second night, Vega gets impatient and decides to try to be the girl Cole picks up. Cole sees through the ruse and walks away.
After failing, Vega decides to get Arthur’s file even though it is slightly dangerous with the feds watching her. It turns out that the file belongs to the drug overdose case of Arthur and Dash’s mother. The task was just a test to see if Vega would do it. Arthur is satisfied and gives Vega a name on a small index card. The potential victim is Blanca Garcia.
Vega and Dash go to the club and find Blanca. Dash wants to warn her, but Vega wants to wait until they can catch Cole in the act. Vega gets distracted when Blake shows up at the club. Dash approaches Blanca and accidentally scares her off. Dash actually feels victorious, but Vega points out that Cole is leaving the club also. Cole and Blanca wind up sharing a cab.
Vega and Dash rush to Cole’s residence, but they find Cole alone. Blanca got out of the cab earlier. There was an inkling earlier that the bartender at the club had feelings for the girls he served and he is now my prime suspect. Vega and Dash rush to Wally’s to further evaluate the video. Vega spots chopsticks in a glass, which is how the bartender stirred the drinks. Almost too predictable, though, I guess the real murderer can’t be completely out of the blue. Blanca returned to the club because she left her purse. The club is (weirdly, in my opinion) empty except for the bartender.
The bartender ties Blanca up, being mad that Blanca (and perhaps other girls) go for the “bad boys” but not the “nice guys” like the bartender himself. The bartender almost stabs Blanca, but Vega and Dash arrive in the nick of time. Although Vega tells Dash to stay back (for his own safety), Dash follows closely as Vega chases in hot pursuit. Vega is blinded when her night vision overloads as the disco lights are turned on. Although she doesn’t now where to shoot, Dash predicts where the bartender will be and tells Vega where to shoot at the exact time/spot. Vega decides that perhaps Dash should stick with her from now on even in chases.
After all the murder prevention excitement, Dash takes a walk in the park. To his surprise, the goth girl he had previously checkmated at chess asks him if he’d like to play. Do we see a future romance? Or maybe just friends.
Last scene: Agatha catches a glimpse of Vega in a vision.
Will Agatha and Arthur warn Dash that Vega is trouble? Thus far, they’ve only given Dash very no-specific warnings.
