So here we are, the season finale (and series finale?) of FOX’s Minority Report. I actually thought it wrapped up relatively well, though there was, sadly, one unfortunate demise toward the end. Who perished? Let’s find out!
We start the episode with Wally being interrogated at a police station 17 years prior, in the year 2048. He thinks he’s under arrest, but he’s actually being recruited by the police to work with the pre-cogs. The young pre-cogs are eager to help. They think it will only be for “a few days.” The superiors soon decide to keep the pre-cogs in the milkbath for “hopefully” 60 years. (the previous record was 36 hours)
In present day 2065, Dr. Gray (the biochemist terrorist from last week’s episode) is being interrogated but doesn’t any information.
In a meeting with a former general turned private civilian contractor, Blomfeld explains that his team recovered traces of DNA from Agatha’s cabin in Fiddler’s Neck. There are three unidentified specimens, but a fourth specimen belonged to Detective Vega.
At Arthur’s apartment, Vega suggests to the three pre-cogs that they should flee the city. Vega thinks Blomfeld is too dangerous and too powerful since he potentially has the entire agency at his disposal. Dash thinks otherwise. When he was at Wally’s, Blomfeld only had two other agents with him. Also, Blomfeld didn’t arrest Wally. Dash believes that Blomfeld has “gone rogue” and does not have the support of the DIA. Arthur agrees with Vega and says they should run. Surprisingly, Agatha sides with Dash. Her visions of the milkbath haven’t changed at all since she started having them. Perhaps she has to change her attitude about running. Suddenly, all three pre-cogs experience a vision.
The vision involved many victims, possibly up to 99. Art was saying several names too fast and Vega only caught three of them. And, finally, we get a “minority report!” It’s about time. It was the name of the show and we only get one at the very last episode. Dash’s vision seemed to diverge from Arthur and Agatha’s. (Though, in the movie, the “mother” of the pre-cog project said the minority report would always come from Agatha.) Anyhow, Dash’s vision involves a scene a park whereas Agatha’s and Arthur’s were indoors.
Vega reports to Blake about a possible terrorist attack. Blake thinks they should put the pre-cogs in the milkbath but Agatha refuses. Vega interrogates Dr. Gray about the number 99. Is it an address? The number of senators left to kill? Gray refuses to answer and then chews on a capsule. At first, we suspect he committed suicide, but the capsule was just a general anesthetic that knocks him unconscious.
Blomfeld visits the police precinct and asks Vega about her visit to Fiddler’s Neck, where she busted a vice operation (while helping Agatha). Blomfeld also asks Blake for use of the police database to possibly figure out who the three mystery people from Fiddler’s Neck are. This kind of confirms to Vega that Blomfeld is off the reservation, since he doesn’t use the DIA’s more powerful computer databases. Vega warns the pre-cogs, but Dash still wants to solve the case.
Dash goes to Wally for help.
At the police precinct, Gray’s mind is scanned using the BIMR (introduced in an earlier episode, I vaguely recall). The scan results in an image of the city’s water supply being sabotaged. Vega thinks the image is a trick. Gray filled his mind with fake images to divert police forces to the city outskirts where the water treatment plants are. Vega runs the few names that Arthur gave during his vision and they turn out to be congressional staffers. When Gray awakens, he confirms the target is congress but Vega wonders why Gray gave up the info so easily. Another diversion?
At Wally’s, Dash’s visions are still unhelpful. Blomfeld arrives and kicks down the door. As Wally & Dash are being led away at gunpoint, Arthur’s associate Andromeda tasers the three DIA agents. The pre-cogs make a deal with Blomfeld. They’ll secretly sneak into the milkbath chamber, do the vision, and then they’ll be allowed to go free. Blomfeld agrees, saying he’s a Patriot first.
In the milkbath(pictured above), Wally helps sedate the three pre-cogs so they can see a clearer vision without the pain interfering. Dash still sees an outdoor park, different from Art and Agatha. Vega surmises that the terrorists are going to attack the congressional bunker, which is near a park.
The bunker’s air circulation appears to be malfunctioning. Vega and Blake break into the bunker. The thermostat reads the temp going from 98 degrees to 99. The ventilation system is then turned on but a split second before the terrorist can add the bio-toxin into the ventilation system, Vega shoot the terrorist, who succumbs to the bio-weapon.
Just when they think it’s over, the pre-cogs get another vision. Andromeda is shot in the vision, and a second later, a sniper kills Andromeda. Why was this vision so close in time? It seemed pretty premeditated. Blomfeld had this planned out. Shouldn’t the vision have occurred earlier. A one second warning is no warning at all! Arthur’s other bodyguard is also killed. Blomfeld takes control. Blomfeld insists this is for the good of the country, though, he’ll also be making a bit of money on the side.
As Blomfeld and his two men approach the milkbath, Arthur springs into action and attacks Blomfeld, dragging Blomfeld down into the milkbath and nearly drowning him. Dash and Agatha also spring into action. It appears they were prepared for a betrayal and weren’t sedated as Wally had mentioned earlier. Arthur is talked out of killing Blomfeld. He runs over to a dying Andromeda and only gets to hold her for a second before she dies. Another sad trauma for Arthur (first one being the waitress who he flirted with once the pre-cogs were freed)
Vega then says the words “put them in,” meaning put Blomfeld and his two agents in sedation in the milkbath for the next few days. The pre-cogs will run and Vega will cover for them.
As they leave the facility, Dash’s warning bracelet buzzes. Dash and Agatha collapse in a vision. It appears as if Arthur ran back into the milkbath chamber to kill Blomfeld. However, it turns out that Wally was the one. Wally yells to the the pre-cogs: “run!”
So, that’s that. The ending wasn’t too much of a cliffhanger. I was sad to see Andromeda killed. The bigger question I had at the end was: why would the pre-cogs have to run? They got rid of Blomfeld. They didn’t know that Blomfeld worked for the former general, though I guess they must suspect someone powerful behind it all, so maybe running is prudent.
So, that’s the end there. Turns out I stumbled into a quasi-right theory that Vega’s “Put them in” referred to putting three others in, though I randomly guessed it might be three other pre-cogs. I hope the pre-cogs make a good life for themselves after their escape.
